Materials for cold heading moulds
Cold heading moulds need to withstand high pressure, high impact and friction, so the material requirements are very high. Commonly used mould materials include:
High Speed Steel (HSS):
With high hardness, high wear resistance and good toughness, it is suitable for making punches and concave moulds.
Tungsten carbide (Carbide):
With very high hardness and wear resistance, suitable for the manufacture of high-precision, high life-span moulds.
Tool Steel:
Such as Cr12MoV, DC53, etc., with good wear resistance and toughness, suitable for manufacturing small and medium-sized moulds.
Surface treatment:
In order to improve the wear resistance and service life of moulds, surface treatment is usually carried out on the moulds, such as nitriding, titanium plating, PVD coating and so on.
